Crossing the Ocean Blue, just like in 1492. Well maybe not?

Posted by Ernesto Peña Jr. on Sep 21, 2015 8:45:37 AM

Back in 1492, when Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Let's face it folks he didn't have a clue. Now that was 523 years ago when sailing was done by following the sun and stars as points of reference to navigate the unknown abyss that we now call the Atlantic Ocean, and back then they didn't even have maps to use as a point of reference. Nor did they have any idea of what the weather conditions were going  to be like during the next day or so. That's not the case anymore. Every year beginning in mid to late October hundreds of yachts make the pilgrimage from Barcelona to Biscayne Bay, to end the summer season of the Mediterranean and begin winter season in the Caribbean.

Ahh yes folks, it’s that time of year again the dreaded Trans-Atlantic Crossing. Well, not so dreaded anymore. Now a days it’s just a mere routine voyage that occurs twice a year. In some cases just once a year. Either way the trip will happen. So we here at GCS would like to help you make the voyage as uneventful as possible while you’re sailing across the second largest ocean in the world.

Ransomware!!! Stick-em up, or you’ll up never see your yacht data again!!!

Posted by Ernesto Peña Jr. on Sep 4, 2015 9:19:01 AM

There you are one day, just anchored off the coast of Monaco, minding your own business, and just checking your e-mails. You go through the normal ads, and spam. Then toss them into the trash, but wait, here’s something interesting. Wow! You’ve just received an e-mail notifying you that your current copy of Windows has a counterfeit product key, and the authorities have been notified, or something to that effect, and if you don’t respond immediately by clicking on the following link, or opening an attachment you will be prosecuted if you don’t respond immediately to the e-mail. The e-mail continues that by clicking on the link, or opening the attachment, you will be provided with instructions on how to prevent this from occurring... So naturally you don’t want to be in trouble with the authorities, and you click on the link, Internet Explore opens up, and you see the following page appears. YOUR COMPUTER HAS BEEN LOCKED!

Well guess what? Your computer has just been kidnapped, and you no longer can access your data, or can't operate your PC, tablet, or smart phone, unless of course you pay up.

J.D. Crawford of Savant Systems

I have been working with Great Circle Systems since 2006 when they did the installation of all our networking and Internet communications equipment on our boat being built in Germany.

The equipment they recommended and installed was exactly as we required.  We have had extremely good results with all of their equipment and it has performed as they had advised.

I would highly recommend them to all fellow captains.
